The Anatomy of Icarus

For once you have tasted flight you will walk the earth with your eyes turned skywards, for there you have been and there you will long to return.~Leonardo da Vinci

Barnabas

There is no time to order up coffee today, so chitchat it is...

Recently I submitted one of my babies “Barnabas the Anointed” to be Sold through the Northern California Arts Council (NCA) in partnership with the Sacramento Fine Arts Center (SFAC).
Ultimately, I decided to buy a previously owned picture frame (knowing it would show signs of wear and tear) to coincide with the overall old-fashioned look of the DaVinci Series painting. I touched up the painting frame to embellish it with a darker brown stain on the wood with accents of old gold seeping thru to create a vintage look. After having completed the painting and placed it in the frame, I leaned it against the wall, stepped back to get a good look at the painting in the frame and thought to myself, I wonder how he likes it? That’s when I thought I saw Barnabas smile! LOL I was reminded of just how sentimental I am with my paintings. As my heart pang I was reminded that the art I create today, once sold, I will never see again. It feels almost sacrificial and in a sense it is…is it? Ahhh the life of an artist!
Barnabas, may you create new sentimental smiles to all those who set eyes upon you.

I have been writing down more ideas for paintings - than I have been enjoying the act of painting itself. It seems the more Ideas I have, the more I begin to paint them, leading to even more ideas throughout the creation process, that ideas are multiplying faster than I can write them all down. I explained to my friend Trish a possible solution to this, “I just need to train my paintbrushes!” (I thought this was a stoke of genius) That once trained, my paintbrushes could act on command, thus I could paint much faster to keep up with my ideas, maybe even paint two or three paintings at once. I would be much like a conductor in an orchestra. I thought this was a revolutionary idea. Then she reminded me that this has already been done… just like in the movie Fantasia. My jaw dropped. Oopps I forgot about that movie. So I replied, and look how Fantasia turned out; see, I told you it was a great idea! LOL I’ll have to watch that again soon.

I just have to mention that my artist bio & statement has been written and I've submitted my art to various places and am getting a great response!!! It’s a nice feeling to have many options. I feel like I've thrown a million possibilities up in the air...now let’s see what becomes of them all! ;)

Its All About Color & Symmetry

 And a New Year Begins!

Other than painting like a mad woman, having too much fun, getting a new business started, and getting this years art shows all lined up, self-promotion and much much more... I haven't done much at all lately! Ha! Now that's funny! LOL No seriously, It's been a lot of work but my work has never made me happier! Without having written here for a while, I now find myself with too much to say. You and I need to get out for coffee more often. *giggle*

Just a few things I've been working on from the Feng Shui Series. These paintings are so much fun to create! They follow along the lines of something I might paint in bulk for interior design chain/business projects. The symmetry of these square designs along with the multicolor abstract textured background, they can easily match any warm interior and accent colors, or in more boring spaces they offer a big splash of color. Fun! Fun! Fun!
